Localization of Fovea in Digital Fundus Images

چکیده

Detection of the position of anatomical structures is essential in an automatic diabetic retinopathy screening system. Using these locations, a frame of reference can be set up in the fundus image. This is essential for two reasons. 1) To successfully find abnormalities in a fundus image, it is essential to mask out the normal anatomical structures from the analysis; and 2) The distribution of the abnormalities associated with diabetic retinopathy is not uniform over the retina. Certain types of abnormalities occur more often in specific areas on the retina. The position of an abnormality relative to the anatomical structures will be useful as a feature for later analysis. This chapter deals with the detection of vascular arcade, macula and fovea. Macula is located at the centre of retina. It is temporal to the optic disk between the main superior and inferior vascular arcades. Fovea is a small depression in the macula and is indicated by a deep-red or red-brown colour in colour fundus images. It is the darkest part in the retinal images. Accurate localization of the foveal region is important to any diagnosis method that is based on the statistical categorization of vision threatening lesions in the retina. In this chapter, a novel approach for detecting vascular arcade, macula and fovea is proposed and also a polar fundal coordinate system is

ARIAS: Automated Retinal Image Analysis System

In this paper, a system for automated analysis of retinal images is proposed. This system segments blood vessels in retinal images and recognizes the main features of the fundus on digital color images. The recognized features were defined as blood vessels, optic disc, and fovea. An algorithm called 2D matched filters response has been proposed for the detection of blood vessels. Also, automati...

Fundus Foveal Localization Based on Image Relative Subtraction-IReS Approach

In this paper we present a method for fovea localization which does not use organization information of other retinal structures like optic disk and arcades. The main advantage of this method is that it does not require segmentation/localization of other retinal structures which are required as prior knowledge in existing fovea localization methods. The key idea is to enhance the relative contr...

Fast Localization of Optic Disc and Fovea in Retinal Images for Eye Disease Screening

Optic disc (OD) and fovea locations are two important anatomical landmarks in automated analysis of retinal disease in color fundus photographs. This paper presents a new, fast, fully automatic optic disc and fovea localization algorithm developed for diabetic retinopathy (DR) screening. The optic disc localization methodology comprises of two steps. First, the OD location is identified using t...

Fovea center detection based on the retina anatomy and mathematical morphology

In this work, we present a new fovea center detection method for color eye fundus images. This method is based on known anatomical constraints on the relative locations of retina structures, and mathematical morphology. The detection of this anatomical feature is a prerequisite for the computer aided diagnosis of several retinal diseases, such as Diabetic Macular Edema. The proposed method is a...

Automated localisation of the optic disc, fovea, and retinal blood vessels from digital colour fundus images.

AIM To recognise automatically the main components of the fundus on digital colour images. METHODS The main features of a fundus retinal image were defined as the optic disc, fovea, and blood vessels. Methods are described for their automatic recognition and location. 112 retinal images were preprocessed via adaptive, local, contrast enhancement. The optic discs were located by identifying th...
